Italia Network – Full History
ITALIA NETWORK started on 12th july 1982 in Udine. The radio transmitted the ‘COOL MUSIC and ONLY MUSIC’, also taken from one of the famous jingles. The format is TOP 40: The top 40 successful tracks of the moment. The formula was simple, but efficient. Good music, no speakers and and origianl and dynamic form of communication. “The sticker with the 2 stars” was attatched to most windscreens on most cars. A true following. With the help of many local radio’s, the actual fm frequencies expanded as many of the radio’s decided to repeat ITALIA NETWORK . The music programming became totally dance orientated and in 1988, house music explodes. Ibiza is the club capital of excellence and ITALIA NETWORK went Spanish with “RITMO LATINO”. The LOS CUARENTA chart was created, along with DISCOSAURO and DISCONETWORK. By now the radio is popular all over Italy. House music was growing every day and ITALIA NETWORK became the “HOUSE” radio of excellence. The MASTERMIX was created and became the most important program for visibility for the biggest name DJ’s in Italy. This led to the first publication of the LOS CUARENTA compliation, that went straight to the top of the charts selling 200,000 copies. NETWORK NEWS followed, an original format broadcasting information based on the world of house music. ITALIA NETWORK paid attention to the different types of house music : It was SUBURBIA, MASTERQUICK, NETWORK SATELLITE, MAGAZINE and 100% RENDIMENTO’s moment. In 1992 a tour of all the most exclusive summertime clubs was organized and was a huge success. During that summer on 23rd august a new law came into play “MAMMI” that regulated the whole radio television system. ITALIA NETWORK became a national radio and stopped transmitting local publicity. The audience was growing and the this resulted in ” GET UP AND DANCE”, This confirmed that the soul of the radio was dance. The programming became more and more sophisticated and led to the beginning of brand new hosts presenting the programs. In 1994 the target expanded with “MORE MUSIC 4 EVERYBODY” . In 1995 it transfers from Udine to Bologna. The staff expands, new hosts and new programs EX: PHILIP MORRIS SOUND, CLUSTER, SENSORAMA. During the weekend, Mixed DJ sessions were transmitted from the DJ’s of MINISTRY OF SOUND in London. In 1998 the radio was sold to the group SPER, resulting in a new idea “SUCK THE MUSIC”. From the 1st december 1999 the radio doesn’t transmit any more from Bologna but moved once again, this time to Milan. RADIO INTALIA NETWORK, now called RIN: “the radio that robs” from hosts of the other radio’s as well as those in television , resulting in brand new programs like, VITAMINA H, ORGASMATRON, WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE, HOUSE GALLERY. In 2002 the group SPER was sold to RCS – corriere della Sera. This resulted in the creation of “RADIO UN CORNO”. The 31st august 2005 RIN dropped the FM frequency to make way for a new project called Play Radio and started transmitting only via internet with the name RIN Digital Radio. In 2007 this project was also dropped therefore ITALIA NETWORK no longer exsisted.
During the whole length of being on the air, many people have at some point worked for Italia Network in various roles, each being equally important and played their part in constructing what became the radio that led the way. Here below is an alphabetical list of “the crew” and their roles.
